Westminster Academy offers an extensive variety of extra-curricular activities as part of our extended school day. Our clubs and activities help students to make friends, learn independently, consolidate learning and increase confidence.

 

 

Our first-class sporting facilities allow the school to offer sports before school, at lunchtimes and after school.  Activities include popular traditional sports such as football, netball and rugby, as well as the less conventional: European handball, boxing, indoor rowing and Parkour, for example. We also offer several fitness programmes, including ‘Girls Allowed’ – a female only club committed to increasing female participation in sport.

 

 

Our musical groups include a choir, samba band and School of Rock, who have the opportunity to perform several times every year. We also have a drama club who participate in the Shakespeare Schools Festival, dance groups, code club and a highly popular film club.

 

 

Our numerous academic clubs are available to all students, whether they are looking for help with their homework or to really challenge themselves. Our departments run clubs for all year groups; English, Maths, Science, Humanities, Business, Media, Art, IT and Languages, and there are lots of other groups, like Debate Club, STEM and Medicine Club to ensure no student can ever get bored!

 

 

Westminster Academy encourages all students to volunteer during their time at the Academy. Students engage themselves in diverse volunteering opportunities both in school and in the community, from being a reading mentor at local primary schools, fundraising for charity, contributing to the Student Leadership Team or working with the Canal and Rivers Trust to preserve the local canal. Our popular Duke of Edinburgh’s Award programme provides an opportunity for students to develop in this area, as they work towards their Bronze, Silver and Gold awards.

 

 

 

Participating in clubs leads to further opportunities, such as local and national competitions, trips and events and potentially additional qualifications.  Regular Enrichment Days enable all students to complement their academic and extra-curricular programme with a range of engaging visits and events, such as museum visits, language fairs and general knowledge treasure hunts around London. 

 

Our international business, community and higher education links provide further opportunities for students to gain unique skills and broaden experiences, all of which allows students to develop exciting personal statements and CVs!
